报告人简介
Michael S. Wong, a professor of Rice University in Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Department of Chemistry. Before coming to Rice University in 2001, he did post-doctoral research with Dr. Galen D. Stucky at University of California, Santa Barbara. Michael’s educational background includes a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Caltech, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering Practice from MIT, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT . With the theme of designing and engineering novel materials, his researches focus on nanostructured materials, heterogeneous catalysis, bioengineering and oil-field applications. He particularly interests in developing new chemical approaches to assembling nanoparticles into functional macrostructures. He published many papers in ACS catalysis, Energy Environ. Sci., JACS etc.

报告内容简介
The sustainable growth and development of human society requires recognition of the limits of our natural resources and of the harmful impacts of human activity on our environment. One can address the massive-in-scope sustainability issue by focusing on the specific challenges in areas of energy and the environment. In this talk, he will discuss his group‘s recent efforts in designing new nanomaterials for polluted water decontamination and for downhole oil detection.
